NEW! BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB!
Starting in September

For your child's birthday, why not donate a new Children's Book to the Library?!

Your child's name will be written inside the front of the book on a "Donated by..." label, as well as the date donated. (See Wish List for titles which we don't currently have in our catalog.)  Or feel free to choose your own title; just check to make sure it is not a title we already have.

Your child will be the first one to check out this book.

In early March, there will be a special "Birthday Party" for all children who donated books! Details to follow......

We Caught the Reading Bug!
(and a certificate, a book, a buggy bear and a medal!)

This year's Summer Reading Program just flew by!  Can't believe that the program is over :(

We were "buggy" for books, that's for sure! During the program, 551 picture books, 268 chapter books, 216 nonfiction books, and 167 easy readers  - a total of 1,621 books - were checked out!

"F"ant"astic job, kids!

We had great fun playing the "Catch the Reading Bug Game." We also made lots of "buggy" crafts; listened to "buggy" stories; and played "buggy" guessing games.

All of our performers were extraordinary: Steve Blunt led us marching through the Library to the tune of "The Ants Go Marching One by One,"; he also had written many "buggy" tunes to fit in with our theme. Martha Dana delighted us with her hand-made puppets; Alison from Massebesic Audubon Society taught us how important insects are - she even brought some live specimens! Tracy Hines took us on an observational  walk ourdoors for an upclose look at nature and then led us in creating our artistic impressions; the Majestic Theatre spun a magical musical tale:"The Return of the Glass Slipper."

Had so much fun!- Can't wait 'til next year!

Many thank-you's are in order:
 -  to the parents who took the time to come to the Library, and to instill in their children a love of literacy;
 - to Barbara Bassett, Director of the Library, and the Board of Trustees for their support;
 - to the Friends of the Library for their contined support;
 - to Cathy Murdock for her brain-storming and her enthusiasm;
 - to Dick Rand for the great upkeep of the building, no matter what event took place; \
 - to Marlene Emery for covering the desk during storytimes and her help with putting together our "buggy" quilt;
 - and to the many patrons, especially the Abney family, who donated so many excellent Children's books in prime condition that I could use as prizes.

Remember to stop by the Library to view the scrapbook, the storybook and the quilt we created.  (Oh, and to check out some books, too!)

Hope to see you soon,
"Miss Lynda"!
